very pleased with product results, BUT remember to follow instructions to the letter……….

I had to get a replacement battery from I-Robot(no charge)

Also they said to NOT keep it on the charger BUT charge it just before you needed to use it – like the night before……….

Hello, I’ve just purchased a scooba and I have some complaint:

1.)First of all,I have problem with the battery.I have to charge it for 4 hours!!(Only the first time was 17 hours, but the Cleaning Cycle lasts only 30min.,it doesn’t clean the whole room 10-15sq.meters.What can I do to extent the Cl.Cycle? Should I replace the battery? Which one is suitable and how much longer will it last?

      2.)About the warranty,what should I do?#to register?where?ect. Also,how long does it last?

Is there something i should have in mind, for residents in Athens,Greece?

3.)I have asked for help, because my scooba has been damaged and doesn’t work, but I had no reply. What should I do? Can I return the item?

      I am very disappointed…

      I am reviewing irobot scooba

I am using this for a quite a while now more than 6 months, when I started liking it even though it had many drawbacks, it’s not working now. Whenever I plug it in to charge it is not charging anymore but a service light is on with a sound indicating that it needs service, and to check tank, I fiddled with it I checked tank and cleaned up everything and cleaned the brush, air filter, but for no use, unfortunately I am out of warranty so I cannot send it for repair or exchange it now.

Pros: clever cleaner, it really cleans the stuff, room smells good, you definitely cannot clean the place 2-3 times the way it does, easy to use.

Make sure you sweep the floor before you switch scooba on.

      Cons:

      1) Noise – it gets very annoying at times, you cannot watch TV or talk on phone, and you have to shout while talking to people in the same room.

      2) charging time – this is the worst part, you cannot use the equipment immediately, reason- it takes whooping 16 hrs to charge every time, you can use it immediately when u leave it charging for ever, in which case you actually are keeping your battery at risk.

      3) Battery life- while at use it will run for 35- 40 min which I did not think is good enough time for it to clean even though the place I live is equal to the size of two studio size apartments. In this era where very small batteries run for 6-7 hours, this huge battery does not live up to expectations. The battery which comes with the original equipment can only survive 6-8 months and then you need to buy new battery for at least 45 bucks (I am not sure if that is covered under warranty). If the battery is covered under warranty you better take the warranty and don’t rely on battery life.

      4) Doesn’t clean the corners as can be expected from its round shape.

      5) Expensive equipment – I felt it expensive home equipment for the flaws it has and the work it does.

      6) Expensive liquid (why do you want to spend 10 dollars for a 946ml cleaning liquid.

      7) No options or display – like you don’t know how long it will run for if u wants to clean it up and leave.

      8) Does not clean very hard stains on floor.

      9) Very messy to clean the brush of scooba after it finishes cleaning if the hair gets in and stuck.

      10) Not really a powerful machine.

This is a good machine for a start. It needs to go loooong way before it reaches perfection.

      Great Product, Great Seller

I bought this remanufactured product after reading all of the positive reviews. To say it changed our lives might be a little dramatic, but ok, it is close. We have 2600 square feet of tile, vinyl and wood floors, 3 dogs and a cat. We set our little Scooba friend lose, and voila! clean floors. We had an issue after 3 days of use-couldn’t get our friend to work. We called the seller, who offered to immediately send a new unit if iRobot could not help us fix it. We called iRobot customer service who patiently talked us through troubleshooting and it is working fine again. We use vinegar/water (a) because we have mostly sealed hardwood and (b) no one in our area sells the Clorox solution. We have, however, ordered more of the solution to use on the tile. One reviewer didn’t like the vinegar/water option, saying it made the house smell like a salad. We find that within a few minutes the vinegar smell disappears and it just smells clean, much better than using a chemical solution, plus cheaper and more environmentally sound.

Broken after 7 months – warranty is 3 months !
      Rating:3 out of 5 stars
It came originally with a defective battery… after replaced battery, the Scooba worked well for 7 months, when it broke. When I got in touch with customer support they explained warranty is 3 months, and suggested me to purchase a new one.

UPDATE: customer support has resolved the problem offering a replacement unit. Let’s wait and test it again.

UPDATE: after another 6 months using the replaced unit, it didn’t fail anymore. So despite the initial trouble with the battery and unit, I don’t regret purchasing this product, and I’ve bumped my original rating from 1 to 3 stars.

      Not for Tile Floors
      Rating:1 out of 5 stars
After finding the roomba vacuum to be an excellent adjunct vacuum (doesn’t get dirt down in carpet fibers; you still have to use a regular vacuum occasionally), I bought the Scooba for the half of my house with 12″ tile floors. The machine can put down a lot of water but looses suction every time it crosses the grouted part of the floor. I constantly readjusted it and hung around while it was trying to clean, then would mop the floor to remove the water. Needless to say, the Scooba is worthless on a tile floor.

Hi I’m an owner of several roombas an work Ok. I thougth with Scooba will be the same, it didn’t work as well. Battery function well for about three times after that never held charge. I bougth another battery and never was able to held charge. I bougth an externel charger and a third battery, nothing again. No really help from Irobot. Now I have an unusefull scooba three burn batteries and an external charger. Many dolars after I ask why they produce such a deficient product.

Fortunatelly Roomba is the other extreme.

If somebody can give me an advise please write it.

Just a bad deal all around
      Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Well, the whole experience turned out to be pretty bad all around… I paid one fifty for the remanufactured Scooba, ten for the cleaner, another twenty-five for the warranty that was offered on the page. First, it was a gift and it came in the Scooba box and not a separate outer box… oh, well, that happens. Secondly, it did not run, period end. Tried everything under the sun including a number of suggestions I found on the web from people who had a similar problem (it would kind of buzz around for about 10 minutes supposedly “prepping” and then would give me the game show “wah wah” noise. It said to check the tank, which of course I did. I primed the pump before, during and after, I tried different levels of water and solution, I cleaned off the solution dispenser, etc. etc. Nada. So, then I find out the warranty is no good because it is a remanufactured product, yet Amazon was selling the warranty on the product page. Too bad, SOL, sucker. There is no getting your money back for the warranty. On top of that, Amazon has now charged me fifteen bucks to ship back the defective Scooba… so I’m out fifty bucks total, I now have a fake warranty and a bottle of cleaner I can’t use and I’m not happy. I have finally learned my lesson with all online retailers, especially Amazon… I will use you for your reviews and to help price comparison, but I will buy at a bricks and mortar. So there. Take that. If you want a review of the product and not just Amazon service, can’t help you… perhaps the non-manufactured product is better. I own a low-end Roomba and while it isn’t wonderful, at least it runs.

I have a roomba 530 that I absolutely love. My worst enemy is the kitchen floor — I HATE it. It always seems dirty and I really just despise sweeping and washing it. So for xmas, my parents got me the scooba which I’d been wanting(VERY BADLY), and it was a good choice to get the remanufactured one here on Amazon being it doesn’t seem as loved as the roomba is if you look at reviews. For $150, I think it was a fair price. Having used it now, I wouldn’t pay more.

To let you know the space I’m using it: live in an apartment with 6 rooms, all hardwood floors except the kitchen and bath which are tile and linoleum. I followed all the directions and read up on the scooba beforehand online. I got the 5800(they say you’ll either get the 5800 or 5900 when you order one remanufactured). Totally fine with me as its the model where you can use either the scooba Clorox solution mixed with water or white vinegar mixed with water. Once the solution that came with it runs out, I’ll definitely be using the white vinegar not only for the cost effectiveness, but it’s ‘green’ and also probably healthier for my cats.

A couple of things that bug me. I realized when you power it down, the suction stops and therefore leaks a bit of the dirty water it was in the process of sucking up. but it does make sense, so that’s not a big deal. I usually just swiffer up the stuff it leaked when I’m done. The other thing that’s not great is that it is not as intuitive as the roomba. It seems to have issues when a room is not completely square. It either ignores an entire area or if you block it in a small 3×3 space(in my case the area it was ignoring in the room) with the virtual wall it just becomes confused and rams itself into the same corner over and over looking for a way out. That was a bummer for me, as I love how the roomba can get in and out of anywhere on its own and never leaves any reasonably reached area untouched in my opinion.

Also the battery life isn’t very long. It usually does my kitchen and then makes the “I’m so done and out of battery juice” booping and beeping. That’s fine as I don’t have a large space to clean and one room a day works well for me. It’s pretty easy to clean when it done and things clip in and out of place for washing. You can submerge the tank but not the bottom part of the unit, but the little brushes to pop in and out so you can wash them as well. I think by maintaining and cleaning it well after every use, it should keep working nicely.

So all in all, it does wash the floors so I don’t have to do it, which is amazing. I’m happy to have it and really feel accomplished when I’m ‘roomba-ing’ my bedroom and ‘scooba-ing’ the kitchen while I read a book haha As long as you don’t expect it to work wonders and have realistic expectations, it’s definitely a fun and useful gadget to have.

When I first got it, I was so excited. I thought I could finally be free from mopping the floor. It was great when it worked, but when I used it for the third time, it started having the problem. It kept telling me “Check the tank”. I did everything as the manual said, and finally it worked when I poured its cleaning solution. I thought the solution was so important so I purchased a dozen. And then I used it for couple months, the battery died. I only used the Scooba once a week when it worked and it’s not over a year yet since I purchased. I wanted to get another battery and after I saw all the reviews, I decide not to.

It took more time for me to fix Scooba than to actually mop the floor.

I’ve used it once, so far, & expect great things to continue.

I have a corner that is tight on space so it didn’t surprise me that the robot couldn’t clean very well in that area. I used water only for the first trial & found it amazingly effective. My cats are a bit unhappy with the noise level but they just hid from it in another room. I do not find the noise objectionable. MUCH LESS WORK THAN MOP & BUCKET or even moistened pad “on a stick” type products.

I found this item easy to set up and use. It cleaned my terrazo floor quite well, but the battery doesn’t last very long at all. This might be acceptable in apartments or homes with limited hard floors, but my entire house has a hard floor, making this a pain to use and charge so frequently.

I bought two refurbished scoobas, one for me, one as a gift. One worked reasonably well. (It completes a cycle, and sucks up about half the water it puts out. I’m guessing that’s roughly expected behavior). The other, sucked up none to just barely a tablespoon of water every time we ran it. Additionally, this defective scooba would *always* run out of battery before finishing a full cycle (it never went into the drying mode where the cleaning light flashes, and every time there was nearly a half cup to a cup of liquid left in the clean tank).

Considering we followed the manuals to the letter, and one works and one doesn’t, I doubt this is user error.

      For the price, I’m disappointed.

I was very disapponted in my Scooba. Only because it did not come with any of the “normal” attachments or charger. So all I got was a very expensive machine that I could not use since I could not charge it. I don’t blame Amazon, I blame GrassTwo, the company that uses Amazon to sell off their re-furbed stuff. The description said nothing about not including the re-charger or other necessary attachment. Look online for the whole package if you are goint to buy this product……..because it won’t operate with out the other necessary parts.

If I had bought a Scooba first, I would never have bought a Roomba. The Roomba is Albert Einstein to the Scooba’s Homer Simpson. It gets stuck just by running into a baseboard in a corner. It will just sit there and keep beating on the wall as if the wall should move out of its way. Sometimes the latch won’t open to separate the solution tank from the base. Today it was running across the floor, ceramic tile, and just stopped. Its “I’m stuck” light came on. It should have been labeled, “I’m stupid!”

The iRobot Roomba, by comparison is nearly flawless and works great. I am very disappointed in the Scooba and wouldn’t buy another until they get it some more brains.

    21. Margaret H. Bonham says:

      Very pleased with the Scooba
      Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I’d give this 5 stars but there are some caveats — it’s not entirely perfect. Even so, I’m very happy with the scooba. This is what I’ve written on my blog at shadowhelm.livejournal.com:

We broke down and bought a scooba, which is the IRobot’s floor washing/mopping robot. There was no way I could afford the brand new robot, so I settled to buy a factory reconditioned one and hoped for the best. We had bought the roomba over a year ago and after some issues with batteries and a stuck wheel, the roomba works well enough. Since I do have severe allergies and a mild case of asthma, having a roomba keep the dust down has been a blessing. (With four Malamutes, you do the math)

My husband was skeptical of the roomba, but is now a proponent of the little guy, so you see it didn’t take much to convince him that the scooba was a good choice for us.

We got our Scooba on deep discount and received it yesterday. After a charging period, priming the pump and putting in the solution, I ran it with a fair amount of success. We got three good cycles out of it yesterday and learned some things in the process.

First, if you’ve never had a cleaning robot, you may need to know these facts:

      1. Robots are rather high maintenance. They don’t tell you this up front — you learn it as you go. When the robot is done cleaning, you have to empty the bins, clean the brushes, and make sure there’s nothing that will impinged upon its cleaning or you will drag down the battery and shorten its life. You’re substituting cleaning out a robot for vacuuming or mopping the floor. If this is too much of a hassle for you, buy a vacuum or use a mop.

      2. Robots don’t do well on thick carpet or rugs. They’re best on tile flooring, hardwood floors and low rugs.

      3. They bump into things, animals and people. If you have something that can be easily toppled by a robot, you need to move it.

      4. The apparent random cleaning movements do start to have a pattern to them. They get smarter as they clean.

      5. You will probably need to buy a battery because the first one will likely die. I had this happen and (knock wood) it won’t happen with the scooba, but I won’t be surprised if it does.

      6. You need to visit the IRobot website for interpretive beeps. Usually they deal with beeping about stuck wheels or other minor malfunctions.

      7. The roomba doesn’t have near the dustbin capacity as you would like. For that matter, I suspect the scooba won’t have enough in the cleaning solution bin.

      8. Both products require you purchase something from Irobot for general maintenance. The roomba has replaceable air filters that must be changed every 2-3 months. The scooba requires that you use only the Irobot cleaning solution or white vinegar. Both can get a bit pricey but it isn’t as bad as, let’s say, certain printers that slurp up expensive printer cartridges.

9 They both make noise. They’re not as loud as a full-on vacuum cleaner, but you won’t be able to sleep with them going.

      10. They require some type of attention. They do get stuck on things — notably edges of carpets , and sometimes their cliff sensors don’t work as well as they should.

      11. The electric walls work, but their battery life sucks. I’ve put barriers in the way just so that I don’t have to go to the store and buy another package of D batteries.

      12. Electrical cords are a robot’s bane. They will tangle up in them and require you to hide the cords or put them behind an electric wall or other barrier.

      13. These robots will force you to be neater. You’ll move stuff so they won’t get hung up on them.

      14. Animals have different reactions to them. Most of my Malamutes look on them as an inconvenient moving obstacle that bumps into them from time to time. One will snarl and bark when it runs into her.

      15. Although both seem to have a corner feature, if you’re a real stickler about the edges and corners, you’re probably not going to be satisfied with them.

Now that you know the basics, let me tell you the differences between the scooba and the roomba.

      1. The scooba is much slower than the roomba, it is larger and it doesn’t have near the battery life.

      2. The roomba can do 2 large rooms well; the scooba can do 1 small room well or 1 large room with some areas missed.

      3. The scooba is much more complex because it vacuums, puts down cleaner, scrubs, vacuums up cleaner and dries.

      4. The cleaner is a bit perfumy. If you don’t like the scent, it could be bothersome.

      5. They finally got the air filter right for the scooba — it’s a mesh you simply wash out. Why couldn’t they do this with the roomba?

      6. High traffic areas with ground-in dirt don’t get sparkling clean the first time.

Overall, I’d probably say that either you love the robots or you hate them. Most likely, if you’re a geek like me, you’ll find them fascinating and worth their weight in gold. If you’re a real clean freak like my mom was, you’ll probably find reasons to nitpick them to death. I hate cleaning and if I had a choice, it’d probably never get done, but with these two robots, I can keep the dirt and dust down to a minimum and have time to work on other things, like my books or, in this case, my blog.

I remember someone mentioning on an Amazon review that you couldn’t pay for maid service to come in and do this for the price. That’s so true. I remember when we first moved here, we were going to have maid service done about once a month. The maids were slow and took a ridiculous amount of time to do what the robot did for a lot less time and a lot less money. One robot is about the price of one maid service visit. And the robot is far more reliable and if it makes off with anything, it’s usually under a piece of furniture.

Have had this robot for about 6 months now and it does what it says it does. We only use it on hardwood floors or tiles and use the scooba juice or water and vinegar mix. Both work well to clean the floor once or twice a week, and the battery lasts about 2 full tanks. We use the virtual walls from the older Roomba we have to limit the areas where the robot goes, and they work fine. Cleaning the unit is easy as is charging. the noise level is no louder than a vacuum cleaner and we find the cleaning is done within an hour. We tend to setup the walls between the carpet and wood floors and start a roomba and scooba before we go out. When we return the floors are clean. It then takes me about 10 minutes to clean both machines and put away the walls for next time. Highly recommended product.

I also have a Roomba, and now that I’ve had the Scooba for a few months I almost never use the Roomba anymore. The Scooba sucks up dirt and pet hairs in addition to scrubbing the floor. I love the fact that you can start it and walk away. It is a little trouble to get ready though, because it has to be charged each time before you use it, so you can’t just decide to use it at the last minute. Also, it is a little bit of work to clean it all up afterwards. You have to purchase special cleaner for it too, which isn’t very convienent. You will need more than one virtaul wall though, so that will be an additional $30/wall. It is nice just to press a button and come back later to a clean floor!!

The recommendation from their tech support worked. Yet, it is still a disappoint. One of the benefits of the scooba, is that it picks up the dirty water. Mine doesn’t. This problem has not been resolved by tech support. I recommend you save your money and get your husband to do it.

We’ve been wanting the Scooba (we named ours ‘Scooby’ of course-what else?) floor cleaning ‘bot since getting our Roomba and we’re not disappointed. Although noisy during TV time, it works great and cleans well, especially considering what our two active and always shedding Texas Healers track in from the backyard. Its easy to prep and simple to clean after each job. The only issue that keeps our rating from being a 5-star is battery run time; our Scooby seems to run out of gas while there’s still half a tank full of cleaning solution. We’d would’ve liked to see it go the distance, at least until the solution is almost out.

In any case, great job Roomba – you’ve done it again!

We have a very large ‘great room’, and I found the scooba misses too many areas. To remedy, we use the electronic wall or furniture to keep it in a more confined space so it can clean that area, then I move it to another quadrant, then another, ect. It doesn’t clean quite as good as a mop w/ a scrubbber, but it definitely works because the output water is filthy! I hate mopping, so it’s a good enough product for me.

I have been using this scooba for 2 weeks, absolutely in love with it. I was a little worried to buy remanufacturing scooba but it works fine, no problems. It looked brand new when it came. I run it almost every night. I would recommend it. It saves so much time. Don’t hesitate, get it…it’s worth money.
