The iRobot Roomba 532 Pet Series Vacuum Cleaning Robot make caring for a home with pets easier. The Pet Series robots come equipped with an extra set of easy to clean brushes, two interchangeable debris bins for trapping even more pet hair, kitty litter or dander and cleaning tools that ensure both sets of brushes remain free of debris for optimal performance. The high capacity sweeper bin holds three- and -a-half times more debris than the vacuum bin. Counter-rotating brushes reach deep into carpets to pull out pet hair, dander and more. Cleaning up to three standard-sized rooms on a single charge, it comes standard with two Virtual Walls that use infrared beams that creates and adjustable, invisible barrier that blocks Roomba from entering off-limit areas. When the cleaning is done, or the battery is running low, Roomba automatically locates and returns to its Home Base to dock and recharge. Roomba efficiently vacuums dirt, debris, pet hair, pet dander, dust, allergens and more from carpets and hard floors. Extra replacement filters ensure Roomba traps dust, pollen, pet dander and tiny particulate inside the bin. The Roomba 532 also includes iRobot's latest technological innovations, such as a light-touch bumper, stair sensing ability, advanced anti-tangle technology and the ability to transition from carpets to hard flooring with ease. Most pets are initially curious about Roomba but will quickly learn to ignore it-or even play with it. Special safety features help your pet safe: Stair-avoiding system, bump sensors and automatic shut-off so noses and paws won't be harmed if a curious pet flips Roomba over. You should run Roomba while you are at home for the first few cleaning cycles so your pet can get used to it. After that, you can let Roomba clean whether you're at home or on the go. ....read more

Usually I don’t write product reviews, but this one merits one. My wife and I bought one of these vacuum robots about a month ago. We have three cats and my wife has allergies. Sorry, but she refuses to let go of the cats! Anyway, the first floor, where the iRobot works, contains a dining room, a living room and a kitchen. There are three area rugs and the floor varies from hardwood to tile. Before iRobot- which we now named Wally (after the movie “Wall-e”), the cats made a daily mess of the floor. Because of my wife’s allergies, I had to drag the heavy vacuum three times a week. After configuring Wally and giving him a schedule for five days a week her allergies have diminished, the floor looks clean everyday and all I have to do is empty Wally’s gut! This thing is amazing! Sure, every two weeks I need to clean the brushes, but that’s not a big deal. We are now considering buying another iRobot for the second floor. Don’t fret if sometimes the unit stops because it swallows something brought in by the pets, like a string. Just remove it, turn it back on and let it finish the job. If it needs recharging, so be it, next day it will do a great job. By the way, it finds the recharging unit every time. We highly recommend this vacuum and already a couple of our friends have bought theirs after seeing our Wally!

We have 5 small dogs inside (2 of which do not shed). My husband is disabled and I work full time so thought this would enable him to help me a bit more and also help keep up on the dog hair/dust. We have all hardwood floors so figured this would work great for us. However, just the opposite. THe Roomba did not pick up much at all! I even tried charging it longer thinking it didn’t have a full charge. Even with 24hours of charging still the same result. I was so disappointed and the Roomba is on it’s way back. I purchased this item through Amazon.com and ended up actually purchasing from [...]. I failed to read the fine print about returns. They will only exchange the item for other merchandise so be careful of that.

    iRobot Roomba as a Gift
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
We gave this product as a gift to our son and his girlfriend at Christmas, so this isn’t a firsthand review. But they have thanked us repeatedly for the gift as it has done everything it’s supposed to do.

They have a dog (this is the “pet” version) and it has made a world of difference, or so they say.

Their’s is not the programmable version, something they feel would be nice. Just the same, the Roomba has performed up to their expectations and as a bonus, is fun to watch.

    Love, love, love my Roomba
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Our apartment is all hardwood floors with some area rugs scattered around, and Roomba cleans all of it amazingly. Before we got the Roomba, we would vacuum about once a week or so, and sweep every couple of days, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with my boyfriend’s allergies. Roomba has been a lifesaver there. We run it in a different room every day, so each room gets cleaned 1 or 2 times a week, and the floors look and feel so much better.

It’s a little loud, and our downstairs neighbor works third shift, so we usually only run it when we get home in the evening, and during the day on weekends. Generally we have it clean one room a day, and sometimes empty the bin and re-run a room just to make sure it got any dust it kicked up the first time around.

A note for people with dust allergies: the first few times we ran it, it kicked up quite a bit of dust that the broom had been missing (I’m guessing in small cracks in the floor). So, the first few times we ran it, I would close the door to the room, wait for it’s happy little “I’m finished” song, then go in to clean and re-start it. After a few days, it stopped finding so much dust (but you should have seen the vacuum filter at first – gross!) and now boyfriend can run it anywhere in the apt without getting stuffed up.

The reason this only gets 4 stars: Occasionally it will refuse to run, and the “Clean” button will turn orange/yellow, and flash rapidly while trying to charge. When this happens, I take the battery out and make sure all the connections are clean. If that doesn’t work, every now and then we have to plug the cord directly into the Roomba and just leave it alone for 2 or 3 days. (This was recommended on a Roomba forum.) Then it will run normally again. This has only happened 2 or 3 times in the year we’ve had it, so it’s not a huge deal, considering how much it runs.

Overall, it’s a great purchase, and I’m still glad we got it every time I look at the heavy, loud, dirty vacuum that’s been sitting untouched in the closet. If our 532 ever breaks permanently, we’ll probably get a model with programmable cleaning cycles, but will definitely stick with Roomba.

    Helpful in Many Ways
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
My husband did quite a bit of research before we actually purchased this model; we chose the pet series because we own a large dog and hair is a constant issue. It became apparent that the Roomba can’t compare to a heavy duty upright – but it does help us immensely because we are able to run it every day (or more if necessary) and we do a much better job at keeping things picked up so it can do its job more efficiently.

Started off happy, but breaks quickly and warranty not honored
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Like most of the reviews I was originally very happy with Roomba, and give it a very positive 5 star review, but the robot broke after less than a year. I learned not only is it very cheaply built, but its bad design leaves it vulnerable to the dust it is supposed to be designed to pick up.

It turns out its parts are very vulnerable to dust which is a major issue for a vacuum cleaner. None of the gears, barings, or moving components are sealed so dust gets into them and they start to grind until they fail. Even the gears and bearings that drive the bushes are unsealed leaving them vulnerable to the dust and dirt they are designed to pick up.

Eventually the brushes on the bottom stopped working. The tech support person confirmed that it was still under warranty, and that the problem was a documented know fault with the design. They how ever refused to replace it. The only thing they would offer was to send me new parts that I would have to replace my self. I explained I am not a tech of any kind and did not feel I was qualified to replace small gears that need to be precisely installed. They said sending me the parts was all they would do for me.

  8. Vilhelm says:

    Just OK.
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
    Pros:

Does a good job picking up loose dirt and can clean modest sized rooms.

    Cons:

The roomba 532 series model doesn’t hold dust and cat fur as well as the previous module. A significant amount of dust/lint and fur accumulate on the rollers until it gets ejected back onto the floor. I clean the roomba 1-2 times during a single run, and there is ‘always’ more dirt on the rollers and spinning brush than in the dirt bin.

This pet model of roomba doesn’t appear to outperform the 570 with pet hair IMO. On the flip side it does seem to overheat faster.

In short I’ll probably go back to the 570 model.

Finally we got feed up and contacted customer service. They replaced the whole brush / pickup box…in Feb. 09…it worked until the summer and then it would run 5 minutes and stop, as this is what it did before I thought it was the same thing….but when we contacted them in Sept. 09 they had me reset the battery…that did not work. I went out of town and did not get back in touch until Jan., it have been in closet for 6 months…now they are making me buy a batteries! Long story short, a $300 vacuum has worked maybe 6 months out of 18 months, and it now costing me $55…..last I robot I buy…iRobot Roomba Pet Series 532 Vacuum Cleaning Robot

We have had this Roomba 532 for a year and I still love it. Currently, something broke on it (I have no idea how) and i am able to send it in under their warranty for a new one (only paying to ship my faulty piece back). I am feeling at loss w/out it now. I LOVE the Roomba. I think it’s one of the most under valued items out there. It picks up tons of dirt and pet hair. It always amazed me how after the cleaning service, or a recent vacuum (with the regular stand up vacuum), Roomba still finds more. I usually use it when I think of it, just turning her on and letting her go anywhere. I have a huge home and I really don’t care where she goes (I never use the accessories that limit her to one room). She always comes back w/a fair amount of dirt. My kids recently had some art project and they were dropping tiny bits of paper all over the floor. I figured it wasn’t a big deal b/c we would get Roomba in there. THis is when I realized it was broken :( So, I had my 4 year old pick up the paper instead and was pleased to see that Roomba’s warranty is going to cover whatever is wrong with it. In short, before buying this, I thought that it couldn’t work that well. I was really wrong. I think this does a darn good job of picking up dirt and it’s so nice to use b/c you don’t have to work much to get the floors clean!

I got this little wonder for Christmas & am thoroughly impressed. I have two dogs who love to shed as much as they love life, and floors that show every hair they lose. I run my Roomba 2-3 times a day and the floors look amazing. I was worried about the dogs chasing after it, but they prefer to just keep away. The Roomba gets all hair and cleans the floor for about an hour before conveniently docking itself in its charging cradle.

You do need to clean the brushes and filter regularly, but it takes all of 5 minutes and Roomba has made the parts you need to clean easy to get to and take apart.

This robot cleans carpet, tile and wood floors all equally well. It also has no problem going over the 1/4 inch piece of wood that separates my wood floor from my tile floors. It also doesn’t get itself caught on my throw rugs and wires.

I highly recommend this to anyone interested in a little rest from constantly cleaning their floors.

Got my Roomba 532 Pet Series in April 2009 and have been using it weekly since. I love the ease of use but am frustrated by the edge/drop-off sensors. You see I have a carpet with patterned squares, some are light and some are black. The Roomba perceives the black squares as an edge or drop-off it might fall from and thus won’t clean the dark squares. Since I live in a one story house without edges/drop-offs, I’d like to turn off this feature but have had no success getting Roomba Customer Services to assist me in this process.

I will readily confess > right up front > that I am one of those people who experiences true affection for my Roomba. I had not thought, as another reviewer, of NAMING the machine, but I really enjoy my robot workforce” (Roomba + SpotBot).

It is simply delightful to just push the button and watch the little robot get busy. It scurries around the defined space (I use the beacons, as my open floor plan is a bit much for Roomba’s geometry), cleans around and UNDER everything, respects defined boundaries perfectly, and returns itself to the charging station almost cheerfully.

We have 2 Dyson vacuums and a small Hoover, but with busy schedules and chronic pain, it isn’t easy to stay abreast of the debris from 3 cats and hundreds of overflights by jets on final approach to our local airport. Roomba handles everything from cat hair and kitty litter to the fine dust that settles to earth behind air transports. Our floors have never been cleaner.

We did have to return the first one due to a malfunction, but the replacement arrived in a day or two. I would like one of the upgraded modules that others have written about, but as long as the company continues to address consumer issues, I remain ecstatic with this little darling!

CAUTION ALL ROOMBA OWNERS > If you have key-operated gas fireplaces, as we do, be sure to remove the keys before operating the Roomba. I had (2) instances of entering a cleaned room to the smell of gas leaking, only to discover that busy little Roomba had pushed something into the key, which caused the key to open the valve so that gas began to flow to the fireplace. REMOVE ALL KEYS, then operate your Roomba.

Roomba is pretty good at picking up most dirt from carpet and hardwood floors, but it doesn’t get everything. Still, it’s nice to be able to set it off while you do other things around the house.

Overall it does what it says it should, and will clean the whole room if left alone. Good to keep on top of the copious amount of dog hair in my house.

We got our roomba in July 09. By Dec 09, we have had to replace a part sent by the company (which was fast and friendly) and we have struggled continuously to keep the roomba up and running. The brushes require constant cleaning. The battery life is not spectacular. And we have emailed customer support monthly due to clicking noises and alerts to clean the brushes after only 10 minutes of use. Customer service has asked us to try a HUGE list of things which we do every time only to have the problem TEMPORARILY resolved. We just went out and bought an old school canister vacuum this weekend. Since July, there have been numerous times when we have had to use our car vacuum to clean the floors when company was coming over and the roomba was just clicking away rather than sucking. I hate this machine and regret spending the $350 I spent on it!

Pet Series, a gizmo that works
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I was happy with my regular Roomba but was curious to see if it was picking up the hairs from my two cats. One night I aimed the beam of a flashlight parallel with the surface of my oak floor. Try it sometime if you have the courage. What at first looked like a clean floor suddenly looked absolutely fuzzy. The regular Roomba just would not get the fine hairs, nor would a well-reviewed upright vacuum. I tried the Roomba Pet Series out of desperation. So few gizmos work as advertised but the Pet Series really scrubbed the floor. When I emptied the Pet Series trash bin after the first use, I found it much more full of pet hairs than with the regular Roomba. True, I decided to clean the brushes after the first use, but that was because they had picked up so many fine pet hairs that had been missed before. Besides, Roomba’s user-friendly design makes cleaning the brushes a snap. After the first use of the Pet Series, I tried the flashlight test again. Amazing. The only hairs left, and they were very few, were those that had stuck to the floor varnish. On a quick walk-through, the oak floors now actually look cleaner.

We love our new pet series Roomba. Our house has never been so clean and dust free. I let it run daily in my living room-kitchen area and it always surprises me with a bin full of litter and dust. We also love to watch it work and two of my three cats have adjusted very well, they like to watch it also or just sleep while it cleans under the bed.

I love this product. This is technology at its finest. I have a golden retriever/shepherd mix dog who leaves big clumps of hair throughout the house. The pet version Roomba is great at picking up the hair and keeping my house much cleaner. My mother has the regular version Roomba, which I don’t think is as well suited to pet homes. This one has a bigger storage area for things picked up, so will go longer before emptying. It even comes with a really big optional vacuum container. This product vacuums my carpets much better than the regular vacuum. Highly recommend it.

We just bought a new house. We have 1 dog and 2 cats that shed a lot. Even though we would vacuum frequently, the hair would just build up. I use this every day. It cleans under the bed, under the couch, the bathrooms, closets, kitchen, everywhere! Yes, it is a little noisy, but you get used to it. I have not had to clean it in the middle of a cycle, but i do clean it after 1 or 2 uses (a happy roomba is a clean house). I cant say enough things about it. Get one, you won’t regret it.

I sent it as an early Christmas present and when I called to see how she liked it, she said it was part of the family and had been named! She is not easily impressed with gadgets so for her to have declared it a family member is indeed high praise! *chuckle* Now, if only someone loved me enough to buy me one! ;o)

The roomba is absolutely amazing!! Well worth the cost.. I found though that for me it is best to always use the oversized bin or else my dogs hair gets too clogged in the regular size bins filter. All in all it’s amazing to have ultra clean floors with a dog who sheds fuzzy hair constantly. Would recommend to anyone sick of struggling to clean up pet hair.

We have a long haired dog (Great Pyreneese) and Roomba is effective in collecting hair and mud. Works great and does the work. The house is noticebly cleaner, However several points to consider

    1. Cleaning – due to the long hair we need to clean the rollers everytime. It can take a couple of minutes and can be annoying. How about making another robot that will clean this one :)

    2. It’s noisy – somehow we didn’t think that a vaccum cleaner makes noise. Since it a Robot run by Murphy’s law, it will come to the room at the critical part of a conference call, tv series etc..

    3. No common sense, we do find it endeering to see it gets caught in the same places over and over again

    4. It might be our house floorplan, but chances of it actually finding the docking station is probably 1:5.

I purchased this iRobot 532 based on the reviews/description . I used it for a month to get a good feel for it before writing a review. Overall I would say that I’m satisfied with the product but think another series/model may be better based on the price and product capability. I have 4 dogs and an all tile house. I wanted something to help in-between the formal cleanings…just to keep the dog tumble weeds to a minimum. I found that this product does not do very well with deep grout lines. It can pick up light materials but does not do that good with a heavy sand or something like that. I would recommend a series/model that has scheduling capabilities so it can be set to run when your not around. The battery only last about an hour and sweeps about 2 small rooms. The biggest disappointment is the products ability to fine it’s home base. I’m always having to find it and place it back in it’s docking station. If I restrict it to one room, it has no problem. Two rooms…it has yet to find it’s docking station. It comes with two blockers. This model does not come with blockers that can be changed to towers. So I’ll need to buy more blockers to restrict where it travels. It does like to climb so I had to setup blocks because it kept getting stuck once it climbed over the obstacle. Product is great for light work, and you are home to hit the clean button, and you can monitor it for multiple rooms. Another series/model of iRobot may be better.

We have had the Roomba for a month now and we like it. It is nice that you can do two things at once. It does a thorough job and out dog adapted to it very quickly. It does need to be cleaned a lot, but with that said is easy to clean and maintain. We wish we had three of them since it really only does one room at a time. It came with two virtual walls, but because we have so many doorways in our house, we could use two more.

    Don’t believe the hype.
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The whole point in buying a Roomba is to save time. Any time you save is quickly lost by the amount of time spent cleaning the brushes or walking around the house to see where the Roomba stopped due to the battery running out without even making an attempt to dock with the charger. The Roomba doesn’t seem to follow any sort of pattern when cleaning. During every cycle, it will go over one area multiple times while completely ignoring other areas. I also find that the Roomba is just tall enough to get stuck under our sectional and the dresser in the bedroom. In fact, just today I had to free the trapped Roomba from the exact same spot three times.

The actual vacuuming that it does do is fairly ineffective on anything other than hair or loose surface dirt. For a good, deep vacuum you’ll still have to break out your upright.

I’m a robot-loving nerd but the Roomba just doesn’t do it for me. The idea is years ahead of the technology required to do the job effectively.

    UPDATE after two months:

I really like this product and have settled into cleaning each room about once a week. Glad I bought it. Perfect for hardwood homes.

    +++++++++++++++

I gave this product 4 stars because it’s effective and fun, but doesn’t completely meet my expectations (like returning to the docking station and needing to be plugged in 24/7) but it’s close. I’ve used this for a couple of weeks so I’m still wary of it’s lifespan as other reviewers mentioned. I suppose purchasing it from BedBath & Beyond would make a return easier.

I have a house with two XL cats. I really dislike the loud sound of a traditional vacuum and needing to attach a hose to get anywhere near corners or under furniture. This unit’s noise is very tolerable and cleans places I never have. The cats aren’t afraid of it either.

I section off a room at a time and then go do something else. I wouldn’t run this while out unless the room really has no hazards for the robot like something to get wedged under. I dump the bin and filter fluff into the trash after each room. I don’t run it in every room, every single day. I think that’s a little psycho. The clean floors have made me want to mop them with the swiffer wetjet I also hadn’t used in many months.Very nice results.

This vacuuming has really cut down the amount of swirling hair balls and floating hairs in the house – fewer eye irritations and allergy symptoms like my husband used to get when he would clean something around the house. I got the kit from HSN with two towers that I’ve needed to block off the oddly designed old house that I live in. Transitions onto area rug easily.

Got the 532 two days ago and we thought it was a miracle since it works great in our 3 dog house hold. But today, it starts to act up and require cleaning of the cliff sensors. However after cleaning the sensors per instruction in user manual, the unit still goes backwards a few steps then stop and give same error again. So, this is going back. I do like the idea and the product and I am hoping I just got a bad unit by luck. Maybe I will wait a little bit longer before try another one.
